My participation in involvements with my church, my school, and my community over the years has shaped me and allowed me to grow into the person that I am today. Staying involved is not only a great way to share my passions with others and give back to the community, but it also allows for personal growth and creates mew opportunities for me through meeting and networking with new people. I really believe that getting involved with a variety of things will help me to grow in diversity and advocate for change.
I have been involved with many organizations, events, and activities throughout the course of my life. Some of these involvements include leadership positions while others have required me to step back and let others lead me in the right direction. Each of my involvements has been a life changing experience -some on a large scale, and others simply as a result of daily activities. Altar Serving and leading Children’s Liturgy of the Word at Mass were two of my involvements at my church. I held a Prefect position as an Altar Server, and had the opportunity to educate and train new servers. When leading Children’s Liturgy of the Word, I worked with a team of four women who led Sunday School for children between the ages of three and ten. For two years, I have been the Head Coach for the Portland Shamrocks, which is a youth fastpitch softball team, and I also play for the Central Michigan University’s Women’s Club Softball team as a pitcher and serve as our Treasurer. I am a member of a professional Accounting Fraternity at Central Michigan University known as Beta Alpha Psi, during which we host regular meetings for professional development . Another group that I am involved with at CMU is the Leadership Institute as a part of the 2015 Leader Advancement Scholar Cohort. I also have been blessed with the opportunity to be volunteer for the Special Olympics, where I have volunteered at the 2016 and 2017 Winter Games and participated in the 2017 and 2017 Polar Plunges. In addition to these involvements, I also served as Executive Secretary for the CMU Student Government Association where I worked closely with our Student Body President and Vice President, as well as participating in the Academic Senate.
These involvements are just a few of the many opportunities I have been given to grow individually and meet and work with so many amazing people who have largely impacted my life. I can honestly say that each and every organization, event, or activity that I have been a part of have had an impact on me, which is why I will always continue to seek out opportunities to become more involved in new things. I believe that this will help me grow as an individual and inspire change not only for myself, but for others as well.
